What should I ask the Orthodontist ?

Surrey dentist

If I’m considering braces, what do I ask the orthodontist?

Your first appointment with an orthodontist should include the following topics:

  • What effect would braces have on my problem?
  • How long will it take for the braces to be effective?
  • Will I be able to make appointments at times that are convenient for me?
  • What is the total cost, and can do I have a payment plan?
  • What will my insurance cover, and how much will I have to pay out of pocket?

What kind of braces should I get?

Many orthodontists recommend metal braces because of their dependability, but you might have other choices thanks to technological advancements. Consult your orthodontist on the right option for you.

Types of braces
Metal braces -The front of your teeth are braced with metal braces made of high-grade stainless steel. Since the brackets attached to the teeth will rub against the skin in your mouth, you can feel discomfort. Your dentist will give you dental wax to put over the brackets to help alleviate any discomfort.
Clear ceramic braces– Clear ceramic braces are worn in the same way as conventional steel braces, but they are less visible since they blend in with the color of your teeth. Ceramic braces are more likely to crack than metal braces.-
Lingual (also known as concealed) braces– Lingual braces are attached to the back of the teeth, allowing them to be hidden from view.
“Invisible” braces – Are transparent, custom-made and removable. You should remove them while you chew, wash, and floss to prevent food from being stuck between your teeth. When you only have a minor spacing issue, invisible braces are a good option.
