Clinical Review Policy

Clinical review policy

Substantive clinical and provider-decision pages on this site are reviewed by a named Certified Specialist in Orthodontics before publication and at least annually afterwards. This policy describes what review covers and what it does not.

Who reviews

Each page that has completed clinical review names its reviewer, the reviewer's registration class and a link to the reviewer's professional biography. Pages that have not yet completed review do not display a reviewer, and the attribution block does not claim one.

What review covers

  • Accuracy of clinical descriptions and definitions.
  • Whether claims are supported by the cited references and stated with appropriate limits.
  • Whether airway, sleep, TMJ, early treatment, extraction and surgery topics carry the required limitation language: physicians diagnose medical sleep and airway disorders; orthodontists assess growth, jaws, bite, arches and oral habits.
  • Whether treatment standards used on the site (for example, aligner wear of 20 or more hours per day and long-term retention) reflect current practice.

What review does not do

Review does not turn a guide into advice about an individual case. Nothing on this site is a substitute for examination by a registered provider. Review also does not verify facts about the recommended clinic; those are confirmed separately by the clinic and marked pending until they are.

Frequency

Pages are reviewed before publication, whenever a material change is made, and at least once a year. The reviewed date on each page reflects the most recent review.
