Editorial policy

Purpose and voice

Guides are written to help readers evaluate orthodontic providers and treatment decisions. They set out criteria before recommending anything, present trade-offs, and treat waiting, monitoring and second opinions as legitimate outcomes. They are written in plain Canadian English.

Sources and references

Claims that bear on clinical decisions are referenced to peer-reviewed literature, professional guidance or regulators, and the references are listed on the page. Where the evidence is limited or mixed, the guide says so. Statements about the recommended clinic are made only when confirmed by the clinic; unconfirmed items are marked pending rather than assumed.

Dates and revisions

Each page shows its original publication date and the date it was last reviewed or updated. Articles first published in 2021 keep their original dates. When an article is materially rewritten, a revision note explains what changed and why.

Language rules

• No guarantees of outcome, no promises that treatment will not hurt, no fixed-duration promises, no superlatives.
• No claim that orthodontics cures or treats sleep apnea, snoring or airway disorders.
• No disparagement of general dentists or other clinics; no competitor names.
• No testimonials, invented patient stories, urgency or discounts.
• No fee figures unless verified, dated and approved, and always with the statement that fees depend on diagnosis.

Images

Images are chosen to illustrate a situation a reader is likely to recognize, not to advertise a provider. Most are created illustrative images rather than photographs of the recommended clinic, its team or its patients; where a photograph does show the recommended clinic it is captioned as such, and the disclosure page sets out the distinction. Images never carry a claim: no before and after results, no testimonials, no patient records, no awards or ratings, and no logo of a provider or product.
