Self-Ligating Braces

Surrey Orthodontist - Self Ligating Braces

Traditional braces are made of the same materials as self-ligating braces. Self-ligating braces, on the other hand, do not entail the use of elastics, resulting in less visits and less pressure on the teeth. Traditional metal, ceramic, or transparent brackets are available in self-ligating braces. They’re the same size as metal braces, but instead of elastics, they have a specialized clip that helps the arch-wire direct teeth into position. Since there are no elastics to substitute, the clip tends to reduce the amount of pressure exerted on the tooth and decreases the number of adjustments because there are no elastics to replace.

SELF-LIGATING BRACKETS COME IN TWO TYPES:

  • Passive:Passive brackets have a smaller arch-wire, which reduces friction and allows teeth to move more freely. Passive brackets are frequently used at the start of treatment to assist the teeth in moving into place.
  • Active: Active brackets have a thicker arch-wire that applies more pressure to the teeth and pushes them more forcefully into position. Active brackets also give you more control over your performance, ensuring that they are consistent and strong.
